Large-format first edition of Once Upon a Time, the major retrospective photobook by renowned Dutch photographer Ed van der Elsken.
Published by Fragment Uitgeverij in Amsterdam in 1991, this substantial publication presents an extensive overview of Van der Elsken’s photographic career. It contains his distinctive black-and-white photography from Amsterdam, Paris, Japan, Hong Kong, Cebu and other locations, combining street photography, portraits, documentary work and personal observations.
Van der Elsken worked on this retrospective until shortly before his death in 1990. The selection covers approximately forty years of photography and was published in connection with a major travelling retrospective exhibition. The publication also includes biographical and bibliographical material.
