Antique Art Deco Knife Rests – Ceramic – Cloverleaf Shape – 2x in Original Boxes (12 pieces)

This extremely rare set of 12 antique ceramic Art Deco knife rests (knife bakers) in a cloverleaf shape comes complete in two original red-lined boxes (6 pieces per box).

These refined table accessories are made with a unique three-lobed profile (cloverleaf shape) and feature a beautiful soft green/turquoise glaze with a subtle shine. A perfect example of elegance and modernity from the Art Deco period (circa 1920s–1930s).

Typical Art Deco color usage:
The knife rests are finished in the mint green / celadon tint characteristic of Art Deco. This specific pastel color was extremely popular in the luxury interior and dinnerware of the 1920s and 1930s. The color was inspired at the time by the very fashionable and exotic jade-look. The theatrical and bold contrast between the cool green tone of the ceramic and the fire-red interior of the original boxes makes this set a beautiful, iconic time document.

Knife rests were (and are) used to protect the festively laid table and tablecloth from grease and sauce from cutlery. Today they are a wonderful nostalgic addition to a chic dinner or a unique item for the antique design collector.
