Description from the seller
Christofle -Malmaison Silver-Plated Soup Tureen and Matching Presentation Platter
An exceptional and impressive three-piece silver-plated set manufactured by Orfèvrerie Christofle, belonging to the "Malmaison" collection. The set comprises a large lidded soup tureen and its matching round presentation platter.
Both pieces are heavily decorated with Empire-style elements, such as crisply chiseled friezes of delicate palm leaves (palmettes), lotus leaves and fil de perles" (beaded) rim. The tureen lid is crowned by a textured pinecone / lotus bud finial, set upon a radiating corolla of water leaves, designed for both aesthetic grandeur and a secure, non-slip grip. The elegant side handles on the tureen are intricately sculpted with a tied laurel leaf bundle pattern, the classic Napoleonic symbol of victory and triumph.
Both tureen and platter are hallmarked, as illustrated, guaranteeing the highest standard of silver plating thickness. The set is in good, highly brilliant vintage condition with a very reflective, mirror-like finish. The silver layer remains completely intact, with absolutely no silver loss or peeling. The silver surface of both pieces is entirely clean and contains no family monograms or personal engravings.
As natural signs of age and light handling, there are some visible scratches on the base from placement, and there is a small mark on the decorative frieze of the tureen. Please closely examine the detailed photographs, which clearly show these minor imperfections, to form your own impression.
Measures:
The soup tureen: diameter at the rim ~23,6 cm and ~28 cm from handle to handle, height to the top of the lid ~19,5 cm, weights (with lid) ~1712 g.
Presentation platter: diameter ~37.5 cm and weighs approximately 1526 g.
Shipping note: The service will be packed professionally to ensure absolute safe transit across Europe. Collection in person can also be arranged (Porto, Portugal).
