French liturgical chalice, attributed to Berger-Nesme, Lyon, late 19th to early 20th century, circa 1890–1924, with a different 900 silver paten.

The chalice has a finely engraved 835 silver cup with floral and vine decoration. The stem, knop and foot are in gilded metal, decorated in a neo-Gothic / neo-Romanesque style, with small red cabochon stones around the knop. The foot is ornamented with engraved foliage and cross motifs.

The maker’s mark appears to be B and N with a chalice between, corresponding to Berger-Nesme, a known French ecclesiastical silversmith workshop from Lyon. The cup is marked 835 silver.

Height: 23.4 cm
Cup diameter: 9.2 cm
Silver cup weight: approx. 175 g
Silver: 835 silver cup only
Stem and foot: gilt metal
Paten diameter 13.2 cm - Silver 900 - 100 g
Total weight: approx. 540 g

Condition: good antique condition with normal signs of age and liturgical use, including tarnish, surface scratches, oxidation and wear to the gilding.
