Description from the seller
Elegant octagonal circular picture frame dating from the late Victorian to Edwardian period, circa 1890–1915. Crafted in stained wood with a gold decor and a rich emerald velvet mount, it was designed to display a circular photograph, miniature painting or decorative print. The refined geometric silhouette reflects the transition from the ornate Victorian aesthetic towards the cleaner lines of the early twentieth century.
The frame remains in good antique condition with an age-related patina. The velvet mount retains its rich original colour with light wear consistent with age. The inner velvet retaining ring shows expected wear, with partial loss of the velvet covering revealing traces of the gold-painted finish beneath. The reverse preserves its original construction, including the period paper backing, which displays tears, old repairs and other signs of age consistent with more than a century of preservation.
L x W — 25 cm х 25 cm
Opening — 9.5 cm
