Offered: an exceptional and extremely rare design icon from the Mid-Century era.
It concerns a monumental brutalist wall lamp/wall sculpture, designed and manufactured by the renowned German manufacturer Brakelmann & Becker from Arnsberg in the early 1970s (possibly late 1960s).
Artistic design & Material,
This impressive and heavy object transcends the boundary between functional lighting and abstract art.
It consists of two separate, handmade ceramic reliefs with an expressive, raw texture reminiscent of the iconic 'Fat Lava' style from that period.
The rich color variations range from deep bronze and copper to patinated green (verdigris).
These sculptural elements are expertly mounted on a solid, thick backplate of natural black slate, creating a beautiful contrast between the organic stone and the fiery ceramics
Light effect & Aesthetics : In the heart of each ceramic element there is a round opening with an E27 fitting.
This model is specifically designed for the use of mirror-head bulbs.
When the lamp is switched on, the light is indirectly reflected back onto the reliefs and the slate background.
This results in a spectacular, dramatic play of shadow and light that brings the sculpture’s three-dimensional architecture to life in a unique way.
Staat en Montage: The object is in splendid, original vintage condition. There are no damages or intrusive restorations; The original wiring and mounting systems are present on the back.
