Mimmo Jodice signs the first Italian edition of Paestum, a unique hardcover copy with dust jacket and case, 320 pages, 34×25 cm, published by Banco di Napoli in 1990, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Exceptionally dedicated and signed copy on the title page by Mimmo Jodice (1934 - 2025), unique and unavailable in a signed copy and almost unavailable in an unsigned copy. 316 pages and about 200 color photographs printed full page and for some double-page, texts in Italian with editorial coordination by Fausto Zevi. Black cloth binding with title impressed in relief on the spine in white characters. Illustrated dust jacket and sturdy illustrated slipcase identical to the jacket. In very good condition, near new.
Apart from the presence of the usual crowds of tourists, Mimmo Jodice shares with us the beauty of the archaeological site of Paestum, which is near Salerno. Constantly moving on site in search of the best viewpoints, he multiplies the perspectives. This archaeological site was discovered by travelers in the 18th century and later Goethe celebrated here one of the most perfect examples of architectural classicism. This site, one of the largest in Southern Italy, comprises three Doric temples, and its orthogonal urban layout dates essentially to the Hellenistic and Roman periods.
Mimmo Jodice is one of the greatest Italian photographers of the 20th century and has achieved international recognition around the world. A self-taught photographer born in 1934 in Naples, he began his artistic activity in the mid-1960s with visual experimentation and carried out cut-out and collage of images, then in the 1970s moved toward social denunciation related to the miserable living conditions of the population of the lively and popular city of Naples, and in the 1980s toward an evocative silence of the metaphysical landscape and Mediterranean archaeology, with a creative language that reflects on time, light and the very act of seeing. In 1983-1984 Mimmo Jodice also participated in the project "Viaggio in Italia" with Luigi Ghirri and about a dozen other emerging Italian photographers at the time such as Guido Guidi, Mario Cresci, Olivo Barbieri, Vittore Fossati. Mimmo Jodice has presented his work in France on various occasions, notably within the framework of the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie d'Arles as well as at a retrospective at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris in 2010 which led to the edition of an important catalogue.
