Description from the seller
A pair of decanters produced by Mappin and Webb of Sheffield, England, one of the country's leading manufacturers of silverplated tableware, active from the mid-nineteenth century through the twentieth century. Each piece comprises a silver-plated brass mount fitted around a crystal glass body. One decanter carries an additional layer of transparent green glass over the crystal, giving the two pieces a contrasted appearance, while the second is entirely clear crystal. The metal mounts and collar rings are decorated throughout with a vine-tendril braid pattern in relief. Both pieces bear the maker's mark to the underside.
Condition is Very Good. The silver-plated brass mounts show an even patina with areas of blackening consistent with age and normal use; this is the natural oxidation expected of antique electroplated ware and has not been polished out. No cracks, chips, or repairs are noted to either crystal body. As the two decanters were produced as a contrasting rather than strictly matched pair, there is a difference in neck colour and a slight tonal difference between the two bodies. Combined weight 2661 g (1329 g and 1332 g respectively). Dimensions not recorded; buyers are welcome to request measurements before bidding.
