Object title: Antique theater binoculars with handle (lorgnette) in brass and mother-of-pearl – Late 19th Century
Description: Elegant pair of opera/theater binoculars from the late 19th century (19th century, circa 1880-1900) equipped with its original lorgnette handle. The frame and barrels are entirely elaborately worked in gold brass.
The optical barrels as well as the flat grip are richly covered with genuine mother-of-pearl plates, offering superb iridescent reflections. The central focus wheel is also carved in mother-of-pearl.
The right eyepiece bears the circular engraved original inscription: "Breveté de perfectionnement", testifying to French mechanical innovations of the era on spectacle lorgnette systems.
Materials: Gold brass and genuine mother-of-pearl. Era: Late 19th century (Belle Époque / Napoléon III).
Overall condition: Fine aesthetic condition of preservation. The mother-of-pearl presents a superb shine. The focusing mechanism is functional.
