Description from the seller

Wim Meeuwis – Large abstract bird sculpture – Studio ceramics / BKR-art (27 cm)

Description: A beautiful, characteristic, handmade ceramic art object by the well-known ceramic artist Wim Meeuwis. This abstract bird sculpture on a pedestal is an excellent example of post-war, modernist studio ceramics from the 1970s/1980s.
Historical value & BKR recognition:
Wim Meeuwis was an officially recognized professional artist whose work is included and acknowledged within the BKR (Beeldende Kunstenaars Regeling). This underscores the artistic and historical quality of the object; artworks from this scheme were purchased by the government for museums and public buildings at the time.

Characteristics of the artwork:
The sculpture stands out for its strong visual contrast in material use. The base, the belly, and subtle details are executed in partly unglazed, earthy brown clay (bisque). This is combined with a minimalist, lightly speckled white glaze on the body, the wings, and the notably shaped beak. The pedestal reveals the artisanal process and shows the authentic turning rings of the potter's wheel.
The object is fully hand-signed on the underside of the base by the artist with the signature scratched into the wet clay: "wim meeuwis".

Seller's Story

If something moves me, I buy it. It’s that simple, really. Since 2008 I scour here and abroad, always looking for that one object with a soul. Whether it’s an ancient antique piece or modern design: if it radiates craftsmanship and character, I’m hooked. I enjoy giving these finds a new home. Take a look around, and I hope my passion for quality touches you as well.
