Ancient mask, Dan culture, Côte d'Ivoire or Liberia. H. 23 cm

Superb Dan or Kran mask from Côte d'Ivoire. From this work emanates a powerful, primitive force. The gaze is deep, shut, and hard. The forehead is creased, prominent, indicating a Kran influence, a neighboring ethnicity. The mouth is menacing; it shows its teeth, pieces of metal. This tight mouth accentuates the wild and dramatic side of this work. The graphical construction of this mask is a success. It is very dynamic. Beautiful old patina; the back is well patinated as well. A few flaws and gaps, sold as is, see photos. A beautiful old and authentic collection piece circa 1950.
