Thales Patent mechanical calculator from the 1950s

Special mechanical calculator from the German brand Thales Patent, model CE, produced around 1950-1955. This robust calculator was at the time an indispensable tool in offices, for bookkeepers and in administrations, long before electronic calculators appeared.

The machine operates with the Odhner pinwheel mechanism, an ingenious system that allows you to manually add, subtract, multiply and divide. The digits are set with the front slide controls, after which the calculation is carried out with the crank on the side. Thanks to the built-in tally and result registers, calculations could be tracked accurately.

This unit was made by Thales-Werke in Rastatt, Germany. The characteristic gray hammered finish and the black buttons are typical for postwar models from the 1950s.

Today these machines are loved by collectors of vintage office equipment, industrial design, and historical technology. Even as a decorative piece on a desk or in an office, this calculator has a unique look.

Condition:
In neat condition, with light superficial oxidation and signs of use appropriate for the age. The hammer-finish remains nicely preserved and the digits are clearly readable.
