Description from the seller
Tea or coffee set for 6 people, of German manufacture from the late 19th / early 20th century. The set is entirely made of solid silver with fineness 800 and is embellished with exceptionally high-quality artisanal finishes. The service consists of 6 matching tea/coffee spoons, with refined raised floral details on the handle and a internally gilded bowl (vermeil). A coordinating, notable sugar-tong as well (for sugar cubes or ice). The piece de resistance of the tongs is the extraordinary twisted stem that ends in sculpted finials in the shape of a bird’s claw gripping a head of a mythical creature/grotesque dragon, typical of the Historicist taste of the period. Each piece is regularly stamped with the post-1888 German marks: the crescent moon (Halbmond), the Imperial Crown (Krone), and the 800 fineness, guaranteeing authenticity and the purity of the precious metal. Also bears the silversmith’s maker’s mark. Material: Solid silver 800 and gold (vermeil). Era: Late 19th century / Early 20th century (Late Victorian / Edwardian). Number of pieces: 7 total (6 spoons + 1 tong). Total weight 79 grams (verified on a digital scale). Excellent vintage condition. The silver bears its original patina of time, which enhances the sculptural reliefs. The internal vermeil gilding is beautifully preserved. The numerous attached photos are an integral part of the description and show the details of the hallmarks and the actual condition of the objects.
