Description from the seller
Exceptional lot of 4 vintage board games – Parisian Domino “Frog or Butterfly” – The Funny Road “L’Autoroute” – Acquire – Jarnac
This lot brings together four emblematic 20th-century board games, kept in their original boxes and representing different periods in the history of board gaming. It will appeal to both collectors and fans of fine antique objects.
The centerpiece of this set is undoubtedly the Parisian Domino “Frog or Butterfly,” a superb antique game from the early 20th century (circa 1900–1920). It is presented in its original illustrated box and stands out for its remarkable condition, exceptional for its age. The wooden dominoes decorated with frogs, butterflies, snails, storks, roosters, crocodiles and other animals retain bright colors and an almost intact appearance. It has become very rare to encounter such a well-preserved copy.
The lot also includes L’Autoroute – The Funny Road, the famous French game awarded a medal at the Paris Lépine Competition. This old edition is offered with its illustrated board, its six miniature cars, its playing cards, banknotes, licenses, professional cards, accessories, dice, rules and original documentation. The set appears particularly complete and very well preserved, with only a few normal signs of aging on the box.
The third game is Acquire, the famous financial strategy game published by 3M Bookshelf Games, which has become an international classic. This vintage edition is presented with its original box, board, tiles, cards, banknotes, markers and documentation. The set is complete and offers a very nice presentation despite a few light signs of use on the box.
Finally, Jarnac – Letter Game, the famous French creation by Émile Lombard, is shown in its first edition in a green rigid box, sought after by collectors. The game includes its original box, its playing mat, its letter bag, its letters, its rules and its documents. It stands as a fine example of the early years of commercialization of this classic word game.
The four games are offered in their original state of preservation. The boxes show light signs of use consistent with their age, while the contents appear overall very well preserved. The Parisian Domino stands out for its exceptional state of conservation, while L’Autoroute, Acquire and Jarnac offer particularly complete and very presentable sets.
A superb collection lot bringing together four iconic games, difficult to find in such high conservation quality.
The numerous photographs are an integral part of the description and allow a precise appreciation of the condition and content of each game. Careful shipping
