Italian gilt wooden and plaster frame dating to 1910–1920, model Doppia svasatura sfalsata, external 86.5 × 66.5 cm (depth 5 cm, front thickness 9 cm), inner opening 70 × 50 cm, richly carved with ornate mouldings and a stepped, offset frontal design, in good condition with small signs of age and spots.
Description from the seller
A carved wooden frame with a stepped arrangement, rich in ornate moldings and covered with plaster. Dramatic, beautiful in appearance and form, it is characterized by a singular perspective-stepped structure, conceived with a play of tiered planes that simulates a fascinating “double frontage.” This layering of levels breaks the rigidity of the straight line and creates a dynamic volumetric movement, granting an extraordinary three-dimensional depth capable of framing and maximizing the value of the hosted artwork.
The smooth, outwardly flared front catches and reflects light, guiding the eye to the four corners. Here are inset sumptuous raised pilasters composed of foliate volutes, palmettes, and phytomorphic motifs, which rise majestically from a fine, geometrically textured punched background.
The inner edge is finished with a refined perlinated molding in a faux barley-beaded style. The gilding, skillfully patinated with warm brown tones, gives the piece the timeless charm of antique items, making it a highly characterful furnishing element, ideal for embellishing both old paintings and prestigious mirrors.
