A white marble column from the first half of the 20th century (1930–1940), in antique Napoléon III style, measuring 47 cm high, 33 cm wide and 33 cm deep, in good used condition with signs of age and minor imperfections.
Description from the seller
It is a marble column from the first half of the 20th century, conceived with that decorative sensibility that revisits and reinterprets the codes of the Napoleón III style, where architecture becomes an object and ornament takes the lead. The marble, with its warm veins in cream and orange tones, lends a noble and almost sculptural presence: a polished, silky surface that plays with light and enhances the natural richness of the stone.
The upper part shows carved vegetal motifs, leaves opening like a small organic capital, evoking the Historicism of the Second Empire, always inclined toward elegant theatricality and ornamental detail. The shaft, clean and vertical, balances that exuberance with classical sobriety, while the base again unfolds a more elaborate work: reliefs, curves and a modeling that recalls the decorative pedestals used for busts, vases or figures in bourgeois interiors of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
As a whole, the piece combines architectural solidity, historicist ornamentation and noble material, becoming a decorative supporting element with character, perfect for displaying a sculpture, a lamp or an accent object. A column that, even being from the 20th century, keeps the Napoleón III aesthetic alive with its mix of luxury, theatricality and refinement.
