Description from the seller
This object is an antique Gustavian or North European mirror with candle arms (also known as a girandole or pendant mirror).
The mirror is executed in a richly carved, gilded Baroque or Rococo style and dates in design from the late 18th century.
On the sides there are two integrated arms (candlesticks) for candles.
The mirror glass historically served to reflect the flickering candlelight even more and to illuminate the room.
The top (crest) is adorned with a classically carved face (mask surround) surrounded by foliate motifs. The bottom is finished with architectural details, including a small console platform and meander patterns (Greek key) at the corners.
Although the extravagant curls and the gold leaf breathe Baroque and Rococo, the tighter rectangular form of the cabinet combined with the specific candle arms often points to the Swedish Gustavian style.
