Andre Delatte - Vase - Glass

Slim baluster-shaped vase in came glass (double-walled / overlay glass), executed in the Art Nouveau style that is characteristic of the Nancy School at the beginning of the 20th century. The vase has a frosted pink/mauve ground, on which an aubergine-purple layer is applied and cut away to create a graceful floral motif of winding leaves and flowers (bindweed/ivy). The wavy, uneven rim at the neck is typical of handmade work from this period.

At the base the vase is signed "Nancy", referring to the French glass city known for this camee glass technique (École de Nancy). The vase sits on a separately turned, dark pedestal.
