Description from the seller

Elegant round enameled cast iron cocotte Le Creuset, made in France in the mid-1950s, in its highly sought-after white color with a subtle, delicate pinkish tint, characteristic of some old enamels that have naturally evolved over time.

This model is emblematic of the brand’s early productions. It is equipped with its square black forged handle, topped with its removable cap bearing the historic Le Creuset symbol from the 1950s. This cap simply removes when the cocotte is used in the oven, an ingenious design typical of that period.

The cocotte retains its original lid and its original knob. The inside, cream-colored enamel, is in very good overall condition, with a fine patina from use. The whole is fully functional and constitutes a piece that is as decorative as it is usable.

Dimensions
Height without lid: 12 cm
Height with lid: 15 cm
Diameter: 20 cm
Width with handles: 27 cm
Weight: 4 kg

Condition
Good overall condition for an object over 70 years old.

To note:
- 4 very small enamel chips located on the outer rim of the lid, particularly discreet and visible only upon close inspection.
- Light signs of use and handling, appropriate to the age of the piece.
- Interior clean, with no cracks or restoration.

This cocotte remains a superb collectible piece while being perfectly suited for culinary use.

Le Creuset: a French know-how recognized worldwide

Founded in 1925 in Fresnoy-le-Grand, in northern France, Le Creuset has become a global reference in the culinary arts. Each cocotte is individually cast in iron, then enameled through a painstaking artisanal process that gives it robustness, longevity and exceptional cooking quality.

The early models from the 1950s, recognizable by their specific manufacturing details such as this removable-cap handle, are today particularly sought after by collectors for their authenticity and craftsmanship.

The merits of enameled cast iron
Enamelled cast iron is regarded as one of the best materials for cooking:
- excellent heat distribution and retention;
- gentle, even cooking, ideal for slow-cooked dishes, braises, breads and oven dishes;
- energy savings thanks to its significant thermal inertia;
- an extremely durable material capable of passing through several generations;
- enamelled surface easy to maintain, requiring no seasoning and does not react with food.

This Le Creuset cocotte from the 1950s perfectly embodies the fusion of French industrial heritage, artisanal quality and culinary excellence, making it a top piece for both cooking enthusiasts and collectors of emblematic 20th-century domestic design.
