Description from the seller
Low Sideboard – Walnut Burl Finish – Italy, 1930s/40s
Fascinating low sideboard (buffet) in Art Deco style, dating to the first half of the 20th century. The piece features a solid architectural structure, recently revisited with an hand-applied matte coral-orange lacquer, which creates a bold contrast with the original figured walnut burl on the central body. An eclectic design object, ideal for insertion in modern, vintage, or industrial interiors.
STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND DESIGN:
Configuration: The piece offers a triple partition of space. On the sides it presents two wide open compartments (without doors), ideal as a bookshelf or for displaying artworks. The central section consists of two drawers side by side at the top and a two-door lower compartment, equipped with an internal shelf.
Finishes: The exterior of the structure has been hand-finished in coral tone. The fronts of the drawers and central doors preserve the splendid original walnut burl veneer, with symmetric grain patterns arranged in a mirror that emphasize the natural grain of the wood.
Hardware: Original period handles on the drawers and the door, made of Bakelite or contemporary plastic in amber/honey color with copper-finished metal supports. The central lock escutcheon in brass.
CONDITION REPORT AND DETAILED EXAMINATION:
The piece is structurally solid but appears as shown in the photos, with evident and widespread signs of age, use, and the natural movement of the underlying solid wood. It is sold as a piece for conservative restoration or to be inserted as-is for lovers of the “shabby/industrial lived-in” style.
