A bit of history:

The Sarreguemines Faience Factory was founded in 1790 (Napoleon I was one of its best clients; he notably ordered many vases to decorate his imperial palaces).
In 1978, the Luneville-St Clément-Badonvillers group bought the Sarreguemines factory, and the new owner forced it to cease production of art and decoration to focus solely on tile creation.
The Sarreguemines plant finally closed its doors in 2007, leaving behind a glorious heritage.
