Biography and History:
The Murano glass industry experienced an artistic heyday in the period after World War II. Designers and glass masters on the Italian island experimented extensively with traditional techniques such as incamiciato (layering glass), opaline glass layers, and optical blowing. By forming hot glass into a ribbed shape and then blowing it freely, the characteristic vertical rib structure was created, which breaks the light and nuances the color intensity. Carafe and vase designs with gracefully set handles in contrasting colored glass were a popular hallmark of leading Murano ateliers in the 1950s.
