ARTIKA presents Bodies and Flowers, the first and only artist’s book by the brilliant painter, in a limited edition, numbered to 2,998 copies and signed by the artist himself.
An Art Book, in a bilingual Spanish–English edition and in a large format, in which his most representative works are shown, from his early pieces to the most recent: paintings, sketches, works in progress and sculptures, reproduced in full or as detail.
The book’s high printing quality allows enjoying some of the features that distinguish Antonio López’s work, such as the overlaying of other materials as part of the studies the painter conducts in his creation process, sometimes infinite.
The careful edition of this book is completed with a text written especially for the occasion by Rafael Argullol, professor of Aesthetics at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona; a dialogue between Antonio López and Julio Vaquero, one of the contemporary artists who most admire and know the painter’s Manchego work, and, finally, a text signed by López himself in which he reveals his feelings as an artist.
On the cover a detail from the oil painting Back (Espaldas) (1965) has been reproduced, while the back cover illustrates another detail from the famous portrait Adrián and Miriam (2014). A true nod to the artist about the passage of time, referring to the past and present of his art. A unique edition in which Antonio López has participated in every step of creation and design of the book.
Bodies and Flowers also includes a highly valuable artistic element that shows us the most intimate part of his painting, a giclée print of the work Roses of Ávila, in a limited and numbered edition. This print, personally chosen by Antonio López, can also be displayed as an independent piece.
The Art Book and the giclée print are presented in a spectacular case, in which a detail extracted from one of the sketches made by the artist for his sculpture The Woman of Coslada is reproduced. The case has been created following a completely manual process. The cabinetmakers have crafted the piece taking into account every detail. A spectacular work of art, with infinite possibilities, revealed when combining the image of the case’s glass with the book covers.
