Unknown - Hindu Religious Manuscript Sanskrit - 1780

A good quality, late 18th-century South Indian Hindu religious text manuscript on handmade paper, we think written in Sanskrit, but could also be Telugu script becasue of the characteristic rounded letter forms, and therefore from south India, possibly the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and the union territory of Puducherry (Yanam district).

It consists of 9 pages (17 folios), with red rubication, ruled borders and extensive contemporary annotations. The text is arranged in verse form, with red double vertical marks (II) being traditional verse or section dividers used in Sanskrit and many Indian languages. The smaller writing squeezed between the lines appears to be interlinear commentary. the marginal notes are likely scholastic annotations. This suggests it may have been a working religious manuscript rather than a decorative copy, thus of real historical use.
