Description from the seller
These dowry rings were worn by women and were most likely made in Turkmenistan. They could have been a gift for a bride from her husband (perhaps her husband "to be") and represented a promise to marry, friendship and truthfulness. Much handwork was carried out at the time that these rings were made, and the connecting chain ensures that the thimble was always at hand when needed. Each ring is unique as patterns are all different, some are colourfully decorated with gemstones. and others with extra gold decoration. One of the silver rings seen here is additionally decorated with gold and stones of lapis lazuli and turquoise. The other ring has a very unusual black decoration (Niello) and also has lapis lazuli and turquoise stones. Made from a low grade silver, these thimbles are never marked.
It is rare to find these antique sewing tools today and will be an interesting addition to any thimble or sewing tool collection. No two are alike, and therefore unique!
Careful packaging will ensure a safe delivery. See my feedback on Catawiki.
