Description from the seller
Circa 1880, 23x30cm.

Very fine large-format collotype from the period in very, very good condition, perhaps superb, mounted on thick paper backing.
Excellent preservation of contrasts, gray tones, and levels of detail.
Hand-captioned in the negative.
Based in Algiers, Alexandre Leroux produced numerous studio photographs and local “types,” depicting men and women in traditional costumes, in the late nineteenth century. These images, often accompanied by captions such as “Moorish,” “Arab,” “City dress,” or “Algerian type,” are numbered and distributed as prints or albums intended for European travelers.
Will be shipped with its neutral-pH sleeve (ideal for a collection in good condition).
