Elegant English inkstand from the Victorian era, crafted in 925 silver, set on a lobed-profile base richly hand-engraved with exuberant decoration of scrolls, foliage, cartouches and plant motifs, revealing the high quality of British 19th‑century goldsmithing. At the center features a crystal vessel with thick walls, cut with geometric facets in a diamond pattern, topped by a sober-silver lid, creating a harmonious contrast between the crystal’s sparkle and the filigreed silver. The base features an elegant six-petaled floral design, giving balance and substantial decorative presence to the piece. It bears official London city assay marks dated 1862, as well as the mark of the reputable silversmith Edward Ker Reid, active from 1855 to 1871, guaranteeing the authenticity and quality of the workmanship. A representative piece of English production from the Victorian period, originally intended for desks and writing cabinets of high social status. Today it constitutes an excellent item for collectors of English silver, writing objects, or classical décor. Condition: Very good overall, showing slight signs of use compatible with the piece’s age. The crystal remains intact.
