Gold/Silver commemorative coin? Correction: Silver 5 Pounds commemorative coin issued by Egypt to commemorate the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), held in Cairo in 1994 under the auspices of the United Nations. The obverse features a rich ornamental Arabic calligraphic composition, accompanied by decorative medallions and the date in Islamic and Gregorian calendars, in keeping with the Islamic art tradition of modern Egyptian numismatics. The reverse shows the official ICPD Cairo 94 conference logo, surrounded by a crown of Arabic inscriptions. The specimen retains much of its original luster, with sharp relief and attractive fields showing slight contact marks typical of its MS63 grade. This issue constitutes an interesting testimony of an international event of importance held in Egypt during the 1990s.
