"Marchandes de pain, Egypt", a very fine portrait from the late nineteenth century attributed to P. Sebah.
Very fine vintage albumen print in very good condition, mounted on a cardboard backing.
Very good preservation of contrasts, grayscale nuances, and levels of detail.
Pascal (P.) Sebah was one of the leading photographers active in Constantinople in the second half of the 19th century. His studio, based in the heart of the city, quickly became a reference for travelers and diplomats seeking images of the Ottoman Empire and Egypt.
Sebah produced portraits, scenes of types, and monumental views with great technical mastery and meticulous staging.
