Offered is a particularly fine and complete set of nine hand-painted polychrome wall tiles, produced in the traditional Dutch tile-making craftsmanship and executed in the beloved Makkum style. The tiles are hand-painted on a white tin glaze ground and form a decorative whole with a rich historical appearance.

Each tile shows a separate soldier from the Dutch Golden Age, including musketeers, pikemen, drummers and soldiers with various weapons. The depictions are based on the famous military studies of Jacob de Gheyn II (1565-1629), whose engravings served as inspiration for many Dutch tile workshops.

The figures are rendered in a vivid color palette of green, yellow, manganese brown and cobalt blue. The characteristic French lily corner motifs give each tile a classic finish and reinforce the authentic character of the set.

Thanks to the uniform style, the lovely colors and the careful workmanship, this complete set forms a particularly decorative wall panel that fits well in both a classical, country, and historical interior.
