Yamila Velázquez (Las Tunas, Cuba, 1993) is a contemporary artist who uses digital intelligence tools, currently lives and works in Alicante, Spain. Owner and partner of a company dedicated to the sale, representation and development of artists and works of art, Velázquez combines her business vision with a deep artistic sensibility.
This young Cuban talent has established herself in the field of digital art, using contemporary media to explore themes related to nature, landscape and the intimate relationship between woman and her surroundings. Her works address with subtlety and visual strength topics such as beauty, love, sensuality and feminine delicacy, always framed in enveloping, romantic and refined atmospheres.
With a vibrant and expressive aesthetic, Yamila Velázquez manages to fuse classical influences with a modern language, resulting in versatile, fresh and deeply evocative works. The sculpture depicts in three-quarter view the face of the villain Joker (with the characteristic makeup inspired by Arthur Fleck), meticulously composed of small pieces and blocks with a ceramic and stony appearance. The work establishes a deep connection with Kintsugi—the ancient Japanese art of repairing broken ceramic objects by uniting their cracks with lacquer infused with gold to elevate their imperfections—by allowing powerful lines of golden light to emerge through the pronounced fissures that traverse his temples, cheek and chin. Rather than concealing the character’s mental fragility or emotional breakdown, the bright light that shines from its cracks transforms his tragedy and madness into a striking declaration of visual resilience, where the ruptures of his psyche do not destroy him, but redefine and beautify the complex identity of his face.
