Description from the seller
Hand-painted wooden panel in traditional Sicilian style
Hand-painted wooden panel, created according to the Sicilian decorative tradition inspired by the painting of carts. The work, presumably dating from the second half of the 20th century, presents a vivid polychrome composition characterized by bright colors, defined outlines, and rich ornamental motifs.
The decoration is divided into three vertical sections. In the side panels are depicted two profile figures: on the left a paladin with a plumed helmet and armor, symbol of the epic chivalry so dear to the Sicilian tradition; on the right a woman elegantly dressed, probably a lady or a princess. In the center, a floral ornamental element serves as a connector between the two figures, enriched with geometric and vegetal motifs.
The characters are set within geometric star frames, while the surrounding spaces are decorated with rosettes, foliate scrolls, and floral motifs typical of Sicilian folk painting. The palette, dominated by ocher yellow, red, blue, green, and black, gives the work a strong visual impact and recalls the artistic language of the island’s master decorators.
The support consists of horizontally assembled wood boards. The surface shows a natural patina of time, with slight wear marks and small scratches compatible with the object's age, testifying to its authenticity and artisanal charm.
This is a decorative panel in traditional Sicilian style, conceived as a piece of furniture and artisanal value, representative of the island’s figurative culture and popular art.
