Representing the goddess Demeter seated on her throne, her hands resting on her knees, wearing a chiton, hair under a polos. Remains of red and white pigments. Exquisite.
Size: 10 cm H (excluding stand) - 3 15/16 inches
Material: Terracotta
Culture: Greek, c. 500 B.C.
Condition: Some restoration, otherwise intact
Display stand included
Provenance: with May Department Stores Company, Missouri, since January 1965; with The Hecht Company, Washington DC, 1972; Lloyd and Jeanne Raport Collection, acquired from the above, 28 March 1972. Listed on an appraisal dated 18 April 1972. Ex Bonham's Auction, lot 247.
