Anonima Castelli - Giancarlo Piretti - Table - Plan - Polyurethane, Aluminium, Steel - 1970

This is the famous folding table "Plano" (also known as Plana), an iconic piece of Italian industrial design designed by Giancarlo Piretti in 1970 for the prestigious company Anonima Castelli. The round top is geometrically divided into four wedges, a modular structure that allows the table to fold very compactly, facilitating storage when not in use. The top is made of expanded polyurethane in this vibrant red shade, while the four-armed base is built from sturdy die-cast aluminum and steel tubing. At the center of the table rises the metal clover-shaped element, which functions as the central hinge and the fulcrum of the closing and opening mechanism. Original first-production piece from 1970, in good condition albeit missing 2 pins with spring-loaded locking for the table when closed (see the last photos), available from the original manufacturer and/or hardware stores. When open, the absence of the pins does not affect opening and stability of the top. The table will be packed in the closed position.
