Devotional folding diptych in Neogothic style – 925 silver on a wooden stand – 1930s/40s
Description of the lot:
Fine portable devotional diptych (folding travel icon) in Neogothic style, dating to the first half of the 20th century (circa 1930s/1940s).
The work consists of two plaques in 925 silver, finely worked in repousé and chased with high-relief details, mounted on a sturdy structural wooden support:
- Left Plaque: Depicts the Madonna and Child crowned by angels, flanked by saints/prayers with candles, placed beneath a pointed arch with a trilobate cusp rich in geometric and floral decorations typical of Gothic of the 14th-15th centuries.
- Right Plaque: Depicts the Crucifixion of Christ, with the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Evangelist at the foot of the cross and angels in prayer in the upper part.
The piece is complete with its original hinge and the side metal locking hook in perfectly functioning condition. On the back there is the protective dark wood veneer.
