Netherlands – 1 Cent 1828 Utrecht – unknown overstrike variant

Special 1 cent 1828, struck in Utrecht. This specimen shows clear signs of an overstrike in the year. On various parts of the 8 the characteristics of the underlying strike are clearly visible (see photos).

Since last year a 1828/7 overstrike with mint mark Brussels has become known. The specimen offered here is a Utrecht issue. This overstrike variant is not described in the literature as far as known. In the NVMH Coin Almanac the type is listed as Sch. 331, but this specific variant is not mentioned.

Obverse:
Crowned letter W with the year 1828. On various parts of the 8 there are clear overstrike marks visible, as shown in the photos.

Reverse:
Crowned Dutch coat of arms between the value indication 1 and C., with the Utrecht mint marks under the shield.

An unknown overstrike variant and an interesting collector's piece for the specialist in Dutch coins and varieties.
