Herend - Figure - Porcelain

I am offering the large, 20 cm version of the classic hand-painted Herend porcelain figurine “Mattie the Goose-boy” (Lúdas Matyi), model 5515/C.

The figurine depicts Lúdas Matyi, a famous character from Hungarian folklore, riding a goose. The design is based on the work of Hungarian sculptor Elek Lux (1884–1941).

This is the large polychrome version, approximately 20 cm high, with finely hand-painted details including the traditional red/orange waistcoat, black hat, naturalistically decorated goose and green oval base.

The underside bears the blue HEREND HUNGARY HANDPAINTED factory mark, the handwritten model number 5515/C, as well as impressed HEREND and additional production markings.

Alongside the factory mark, the handwritten blue code appears to read “K96”, which may indicate a production date of November 1996.
Herend continues to catalogue this design under reference 05515000C, with dimensions of approximately 20 × 24.3 × 11.5 cm.


Condition
-Very good vintage condition.
-No chips or cracks and no restorations.
-The porcelain and hand-painted decoration remain bright and very well preserved.
-Only minimal traces of age and storage are visible, mainly consisting of slight dust or superficial soiling on the underside. (Please note: This appears removable by normal careful cleaning and does not constitute damage).

A substantial and highly decorative Herend figurine and one of the larger figural designs produced by the manufactory.
Considering its age and the numerous delicate and protruding elements of the composition, the piece has survived in remarkably well-preserved condition.
