“Circus,” a collection of works by Sarah Moon, one of France’s leading female photographers. Sarah Moon has gained immense popularity in Japan for her unique illustrations and prints, which evoke fantastical narratives. In the 1980s, she was responsible for visual shoots for brands such as Comme des Garçons, Chanel, and Dior, and her major five-volume collection *Sarah Moon 1, 2, 3, 4, 5*, published in 2008, earned her the prestigious Nadar Prize in the photography world. Sarah Moon’s husband is Robert Delpire, a renowned editor who enjoyed the utmost trust of famous photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson and who founded the French publishing house Delpire, which has published numerous classic photography books since the postwar period. This book is a collection published in conjunction with an exhibition held in 2003 at the Kyoto Museum of Contemporary Art (Hakuhikan). It brings together text and images based on Andersen’s *The Little Match Girl*, interpreted through Sarah Moon’s lens. A 15-minute film was also screened as part of the actual exhibition.
