This elegantly polished free-form sculpture made of Burmese nephrite jade presents itself in an intense, rich green hue with nuanced shading. Fine, light veins traverse the surface like natural life lines, giving the sculpture an organic, almost flowing grace.
The form itself resembles an ascending, monolithic silhouette and underlines the archaic and powerful character of the stone. Particularly impressive is the high density and quality of the material, which under strong light reveals a deeply luminous, almost neon-like translucency — a characteristic feature of premium nephrite from Burma.
The strong, translucent green in transmitted light (see close-up) lends the jade a mysterious inner glow that reveals new facets with changing lighting.
