Description from the seller

An original Lansay Penny Ref. 222 D automatic portable record player, one of the most iconic European designs of the late 1970s and 1980s.
Although marketed under the Lansay brand, this model was designed and manufactured in Italy by MusicalNastro S.r.l., later internationally known as MusicalSound, a company founded in 1968 in Paderno Dugnano (Milan). MusicalNastro became one of Italy's leading manufacturers of portable audio equipment, exporting its products throughout Europe and making the Penny one of the country's most successful portable record players.
Produced approximately between 1975 and 1988, the Penny became a true icon of childhood and Italian industrial design. Its ingenious automatic mechanism allows a 7-inch 45 RPM record to be inserted directly into the front slot, where it is automatically centred and played. At the end of playback the mechanism stops automatically and the record can be removed using the eject control.
Entirely Made in Italy, the Penny perfectly represents the colourful and functional design language of the period, combining portability, ease of use and reliable mechanics. Today it is highly appreciated by collectors of vintage audio equipment, Italian design and 1970s–1980s pop culture.
This example is presented in its original glossy red finish and comes complete with:
Original Lansay box
Mains power cable
Fully tested
Working correctly with batteries (not included)

Seller's Story

A lifelong vintage and design enthusiast, I’m fascinated by objects with geometric shapes — triangular, pyramidal, spherical — that you can touch, use, and truly experience. They tell the story of evolving style from futurism to modern times. I collect and offer vintage plastics, electronics, vinyl records, and table or wall clocks (flip, quartz, transistor, mechanical). Every piece I sell is tested, cleaned, and carefully presented. I don’t believe in “untested” items — everything I list truly works. My photos and descriptions are detailed to ensure transparency and buyer confidence.
