Description from the seller
Imperial Russian silver and niello snuff box, dated 1818.
Rectangular form with rounded corners, extensively decorated with finely engraved geometric and floral ornament. The lid has a detailed central figural scene surrounded by geometric niello decoration, with further engraved decoration to the reverse.
The interior carries several struck marks, including the Russian 84 silver standard, corresponding to approximately 875/1000 silver, together with a clearly dated 1818 mark and the initials MK. Additional small marks are also present and are clearly shown in the photographs.
Weight: approximately 60g
Please see the measurement photographs for the dimensions.
Antique condition with considerable age-related wear consistent with an object over 200 years old. There are surface scratches, small knocks and marks, wear around the hinge area and some visible gaps/separation along parts of the lower construction/join. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
The engraved and niello decoration remains well defined and the central figural scene is particularly.
Purchased by the current owner at auction. No further provenance is known.
The item will be carefully packed and sent by tracked/insured shipping.
