Description from the seller

Green Moldavite from Marouskovo Pole, Southern Bohemia, Czech Republic

Total weight: 2.51 grams
Dimensions: 31 mm x 13 mm x 8 mm
Supplied with a display case as in the photo

Moldavite is a natural transparent mineral showing many shades of green. It is the result of impact residues from a meteorite, and they are classified in the tektite family. Moldavite crystals were formed about fifteen million years ago, in western Bavaria, Germany, after a meteorite impact.

The origin of its name comes from the Vltava River, which is called Moldau in German, the place in the region where it was found, which gives us the name Moldavite.

This rare stone is closely linked to the Moldau River, which winds along roughly 6,000 square kilometers along its course, giving the gem its evocative name.

The German geologist and mineralogist A.G. Werner (1750–1817) referred to it as the “bottle stone” due to its green color, reminiscent of the glass of a bottle.

Mohs hardness: 5.5 to 7.
