Description from the seller
An authentic piece of Japanese antique cotton kasuri (splash-pattern woven) textile, skillfully unpicked from a vintage futon cover (futon-gawa).
This piece features wonderful traditional motifs of Bamboo & Tiger (Take-Tora) and circular medallions of Pine, Bamboo, and Plum (Sho-Chiku-Bai), which are classic Japanese symbols of longevity, strength, and good fortune.
Having been washed and used over many years, the deep natural indigo dye (aizome) has developed a wonderfully soft texture and a superb, faded vintage character that only genuine age can bring. Perfect for collectors, textile artists, or for traditional home decor, quilting, and sewing projects.
This vintage futon cover fabric is estimated to have been made around the Meiji to Taisho period (from the late 19th century to the first half of the 20th century), based on its characteristics and patterns.
