Chair - Savonarola - Walnut

Elegant Savonarola chair by Florentine artists in walnut wood.

Crafted in the mid-20th century in Italy, specifically in the Tuscany region.
The Savonarola chair is a folding chair, foldable like a book and consisting of serpentine-curved elements and cross X. The backrest features the lily, Florentine symbol, while it is wrapped by floral decorations.

The term "Savonarola" derives from the name Girolamo Savonarola (1452 - 1498), in whose era the chair of this type would still be preserved in his cell at the San Marco convent in Florence, where he lived from 1482 until his death.

In good overall condition, normal signs of wear and age (see photos). The chair has recently been restored with anti-woodworm treatment and wax for wood care. Dimensions: 90 cm height x 60 cm length.
