Set of 4 antique open-worked wooden carved panels with dragons – neogothic/historicizing – c. 1880–1920
Specially grouped set of four richly worked wooden carving panels, suspected to be produced at the end of the 19th century or the early 20th century.
Each panel is open-worked and high-relief carved from a single piece of wood. The symmetrical composition is dominated by two opposite-positioned stylized dragons or fabled creatures, combined with scrolling foliate work, floral ornaments and volutes.
The four panels follow the same design, but show small internal variations in the carving. This gives the set the character of artisan woodcarving and is clearly visible in the detail photos.
