Description from the seller

Bretz Emily Sofa & Matching Stool – Wildcat Upholstery

A striking and highly distinctive Bretz Emily sofa with matching stool, designed and manufactured by the renowned German furniture maker Bretz. The Emily is a discontinued model and has become a sought-after example of Bretz's extravagant approach to contemporary upholstered furniture.

The design dates from approximately 2004 and combines a generously proportioned, enveloping silhouette with strong Neo-Baroque and French Rococo/Louis XV influences. Its elaborate form, decorative details and characteristic golden lion-paw feet give the piece an unmistakably theatrical and luxurious appearance. The combination of ornate Baroque-inspired design and dramatic upholstery is also reminiscent of the maximalist furniture aesthetic associated with designers such as Versace.

The sofa is upholstered in the original Bretz Wildcat fabric, a luxurious patterned Velours de Gênes textile. The Wildcat fabric is identified by Bretz as material/article no. 678055. The upholstery combines viscose, cotton and polyacrylic fibres, with a richly textured velvet-like surface and an elaborate animal-inspired pattern.

The sofa stands on its original decorative gold-coloured lion-paw (Löwentatzen) feet, which form an important part of the character of the design. The feet are made from cast metal with a gold-coloured surface finish. Some age-related wear to the finish may reveal the silvery-coloured metal underneath.

Condition

Used but well maintained

The sofa is in well condition, but it has marks of usage. The middle seat shows that the fabric is slightly thinning because of usage.
The right armrest has a small tear in the seam, see photo for reference.
The feet are of golden colour but has small chips of damage (mostly on the heels) showing a silvery underlayer.
The underside of the couch has small spots of damage on the black cover of the couch, the stool seems to be intact.
It has a few tiny spots which has white paint on it. I never bothered to take it of for the risk of damaging the fabric, but it seems easily taken of. Mainly the stool still has some spots.
Please refer to the photographs for a detailed impression of the current condition.

Notes

As to my knowledge is this an original vintage Bretz Emily sofa with its matching stool, rather than a contemporary reproduction. The combination of the discontinued Emily model, original Wildcat upholstery and decorative lion-paw feet makes this a particularly distinctive example of Bretz's extravagant German design tradition.
