Travel pendule alarm clock by Japy Frères, France, dating to the late 19th century (circa 1880–1890), metal and gilt brass case in a japonisant decor, mechanical manual-wind movement with alarm and no striking, perpetual power reserve, in working order, approx. 16 × 12.5 × 10 cm and about 1 kg, showing patina and minor wear mainly on the back and case.

Japy Frères travel alarm clock – Japonisant décor – Grand Prix of Watchmaking 1878 – France, late 19th century
Rare and very decorative French pendulette-réveil attributed to Japy Frères, dating from the late 19th century, around 1880-1890.
Metal case and gilt brass resting on four feet, with an elegant faceted top handle. Very beautiful polychrome decoration in japonisant style depicting birds, butterflies, flowers and foliage on a turquoise background.
White enamel dial with Roman numerals, intricately crafted antique hands. Mechanical hand-wound movement with alarm function and bell strike.
On the back are the inscriptions:

Beautiful example of the influence of Japonisme in French decorative arts of the late 19th century.

Depth: 10 cm
Old état with patina, wear and gaps in the decoration, particularly visible on the back and on certain parts of the case. The dial shows cracks/chips.
Nevertheless, the piece retains a lot of character and a very handsome decorative presence.
