Modernist figurine of two people – signed MJ – on a clear pedestal

Expressive and restrained sculpture of two human figures facing each other and reaching each other by the hand. The gesture forms the central point of the composition and can be interpreted as a meeting, connection, reconciliation, collaboration, or farewell.

The artist deliberately rendered the figures sober and almost abstract. The elongated bodies, angular faces, and rough, lively skin give the sculpture a powerful modernist character. The open space between the figures keeps the presentation interesting from every viewing angle.

The dark patinated statue rests on a rectangular metal baseplate, which is placed on a clear transparent pedestal. The contrast between the dark sculpture and the light pedestal gives the whole an elegant, almost floating appearance.

On the baseplate there is a signature, MJ. The maker could not be identified with certainty; the sculpture is therefore offered solely as signed work.

Condition

The sculpture is in good used condition. On the sculpture, baseplate, and transparent pedestal are light scratches, dust traces, and normal age- and wear-related marks visible. The baseplate shows a somewhat irregular edge, consistent with manual production. The figures stand firmly on the pedestal.
