Ersari nomaden - Buchara - Carpet - 300 cm - 215 cm

Characteristic antique rug: Circa 1900 from Ersari nomads in Turkmenistan. Certainly over 100 years old. Beautifully even-worn. Wide kilim end panels. The octagonal shapes are called 'Guls'. They are traditional symbols for certain tribes. So this is not decoration but tradition, culture. The dyes used to color the wool are plant-based. The women of these nomads wove these carpets on a loom. This beautiful brown-red comes from a plant that also grows here and is called madder. These plant-based colors are more colorfast and much nicer than synthetic dyes. All in all, a rarity on the floor.
