AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Echter Hereke Silk Rug – Table Runner / Wall Hanging – Silk on Silk – 1,000,000 knots/m² – with certificate (1996)

This exceptionally fine Hereke silk rug originates from the Istanbul region and was entirely hand-knotted. The piece is a classic silk-on-silk rug, woven from 100% pure silk in pile, warp, and weft. The extremely high knot density of 10 × 10 knots per cm² (equivalent to 1,000,000 knots/m²) confirms the outstanding precision of the weaving.

The rug was purchased on August 16, 1996 in the carpet house of the Hotel Defne Star in Side (Turkey) and has an original certificate confirming origin, material, and handwork.

The piece has been used solely for decoration: it lay loosely on a cabinet in a sun-free area, never stepped on, never hung, and was regularly gently cleaned with a lint roller. As a result, it is in top condition, with no fading or damage.

State note:
On both sides, the silk fringes are lightly yellowed to about 10 cm. This happened because the runner lay a little piece behind the cabinet. The discoloration concerns only the fringes, not the body of the rug, and is typical for older silk.
